Did You Know?
The 911 Carrera's twin-turbo flat-six is allowed to rev to 7,500 rpm, yet it does not make you chase its torque. The full 450 Nm is on tap from 1,950 rpm and stays there until 5,000 rpm, so the car pulls hard from low in the rev range and keeps pulling toward the limiter.

Overview

More About the Porsche 911 Aero

The 911 Carrera is the core of the 911 line: a rear-mounted 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six, rear-wheel drive and an eight-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. It is the base Carrera, with no extra badge to explain, and it asks for nothing more than a good road.

It is quick without being theatrical. The 0–100 km/h sprint takes 4.2 seconds, and the top speed is 293 km/h. With seating for four in a 2+2 layout, it can carry more than a driver and one passenger.

Cabin

Porsche 911 Aero Interior

The cabin is laid out 2+2, so there are four seats: two up front for the people driving and riding, and two behind for shorter trips or extra bags. It is not a four-seat sedan, and it does not pretend to be.

The luggage compartment holds 132 litres. That is enough for soft bags and a weekend's worth of essentials, which suits the way this car is meant to be used.

Design

Porsche 911 Aero Exterior

The 911 Carrera measures 4,519 mm in length on a 2,450 mm wheelbase. The proportions are compact for a car with this much performance, and the rear-wheel-drive stance puts the engine's weight behind the rear axle, where it helps put power on the road.

Power

Porsche 911 Aero Performance

The engine is a 3.0-litre (2,981 cc) twin-turbocharged six-cylinder boxer with four valves per cylinder and a gasoline particulate filter. It makes 283 kW (385 PS) at 6,500 rpm, which is 379 hp in the North American rating, and 450 Nm of torque from 1,950 to 5,000 rpm. The engine speed limit is 7,500 rpm.

Power goes to the rear wheels through the eight-speed PDK. The car reaches 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds, or 4.0 seconds with Sport Plus, and tops out at 293 km/h. The front suspension is McPherson strut and the rear is multi-link, with an unladen weight of 1,505 kg (DIN, EU spec).

On the efficiency side, the Canadian EnerGuide figures are 13.1 L/100 km in the city and 9.8 L/100 km on the highway, and the fuel tank holds 64 L.
